CHAPEL HILL – No. 8 North Carolina used an 8-0 run to end the game and earned the 15-8 victory over Bellarmine at Dorrance Field. How it Happened The Tar Heels scored first thanks to a Harrison Schertzinger goal in the game's opening three minutes. Both teams traded back-to-back goals as UNC took a slim 3-2 lead after one-quarter of play. Two goals by Bellarmine's Kyle Playsted aided a 4-1 run to end the first half as the Knights took a 6-4 lead into halftime. Lance Tillman came out of the break firing as he scored two goals to give UNC the lead. The Knights would answer with two goals to retake the lead going into the final quarter. Highlighted by three goals by Chris Gray, the Tar Heels used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the 15-8 victory. Postgame Thoughts Head coach Joe Breschi's overall thoughts… "Bellarmine did a good job executing their game plan for three quarters before we broke the ice in the fourth. We did great in the cage, with ground balls, and at the face-off. I loved the way we persevered throughout the game. It wasn't the prettiest three quarters, but we kept fighting and finished it up in the fourth quarter." Chris Gray on his contribution to the team offensively… "Yeah, it's always great to contribute on the offensive side of the ball. The best part about our offense is that each game it's a different guy, but today it happened to be me. At the end of the day, it's just a product of the system we play." Tar Heel Performances Chris Gray led the team with eight points (5G, 3A). It is the fourth time Gray has collected eight or more points in a game this season. Nicky Solomon and Lance Tillman both earned hat tricks. Harrison Schertzinger scored a career-high two goals along with one assist. Freshmen Dewey Egan and Ryan Levy added one goal. Levy saw his first action of the year and scored the first goal of his career. Zac Tucci and Andrew Tyeryar were dominant at the face-off, going a combined 20-26. Tyeryar collected a team-high six ground balls. Collin Krieg stayed strong in the cage with nine saves. He also earned his second career assist. Inside The Numbers It is the third time this season that the Tar Heels have held an opponent under 10 goals. UNC went 21-27 at the face-off. It was a season-high in face-offs won and the most since last year against High Point on Feb. 27 when the Tar Heels won 25. The Tar Heel's eight goals in the fourth quarter were the most in a quarter so far this season. Chris Gray extends his point-scoring streak to 49 games dating back to his time at Boston University. Up Next North Carolina will return to action Saturday, Apr. 2, when they host rival No. 10 Duke. Face-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
