WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team put together a solid performance with the 19-6 victory over the Butler University Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in the first of a two-game series at Cooper Field in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 5-7 overall and an even 4-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in league play. Head Coach Ricky Fried "I thought we played hard in all aspects of the game, we had a lot of people contribute to the win. I was really satisfied with our draw controls and our riding today. Those elements involve the entire team and I thought we looked really good. It was a good team win and hoping to keep the momentum going." How it Happened Georgetown was strong right out the gate scoring a goal less than three minutes into the game as junior Jordyn Sabourin took the pass from graduate student Michaela Bruno for the score. This sparked a 6-0 run which included two goals from graduate student Natalia Lynch as the Blue & Gray managed three free position goals during the streak. Butler would get on the board at the 8:22 mark, but the Hoyas came roaring back with three more before the half as Lynch, Bruno and freshman Kylie Hazen all got into the act making it 9-1 at the break. The second half was much more back and forth, but the Blue & Gray had an answer for every Butler goal. Georgetown began the stanza with a goal from Bruno to spark a 4-0 run. The teams would trade goals before senior Mary Pagano and Sabourin both found the back of the cage to make it 17-4 with 7:20 remaining in the contest. Freshman Lauren Lisauskas and sophomore Lily Tardif both scored late for the Blue & Gray as a Butler goal in the final two minutes made the final 19-6. Of Note Lynch and Sabourin led the way for the Hoyas each notching the hat trick, Lynch also pulled in seven draw controls. Bruno and Hazen were right behind with two goals and one assist apiece. Georgetown outshot Butler 40-16, and had 21 draw controls to the Bulldogs' six. The Hoya defense forced 20 turnovers. In the cage, sophomores Emily Gaven and Emma Spraggins combined for three saves on the afternoon. Up Next In the second game in the conference series, GU will host the Bulldogs at noon on Sunday at Cooper Field. The contest will be streamed live on HoyaVision ($) and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
