Junior James Burr scored a career-high five goals and added an assist as part of a career-high six-point afternoon to help lead the Boston University men's lacrosse team to a 15-9 win at Air Force on Saturday afternoon at Falcon Stadium. HOW IT HAPPENED Air Force (1-4) scored the first goal of the game, but Burr tallied two goals in an 11-second span to give BU (4-2) a 2-1 lead with 10:17 left in the opening frame. Burr's second goal came after a terrific faceoff win by freshman Kevin Snyder, who then quickly found Burr for the goal. Junior Brendan Homire made it 3-1 with 8:11 left in the quarter, but the Falcons responded and the teams remained tied, 3-3, entering the second stanza. BU outscored the Falcons, 3-1, in the second quarter as seniors Hayden Ruiz and Ryan Hilburn bookended another Homire goal to give BU a 6-4 halftime lead. Burr opened the third quarter with a man-up goal, but the Falcons answered seven seconds later to keep the deficit at two. BU then took advantage of an unreleasable penalty to score three straight man-up goals and put the game out of reach. Senior Jack Wilson, Burr and freshman Chris Gray all scored to extend the BU lead to 10-5. Nick Hruby got a goal back for the Falcons but Wilson tallied his second of the quarter to give BU an 11-6 lead after 45 minutes. Graduate student Brian Badgett scored his first collegiate goal early in the fourth quarter off a feed from Wilson to make it 12-6. Sophomore John MacLean, Burr and Wilson then tallied three of the next four goals to make it 15-7 before the Falcons added two goals in the final minutes. BURR'S BRILLIANT DAY Burr entered the day with a team-high 10 goals and left with 15 to his name after his terrific afternoon. He had previously tallied four goals in a game on four separate occasions, including a Patriot League quarterfinal win last year in which he also set his previous career high for points in a game with five. Burr scored seven goals and added an assist over the past two games for an eight-point week. Cal Dearth posted the last six-point game by a Terrier, doing so at UMass Lowell on Feb. 11, 2017. WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT Wilson moved his point streak to 49 games thanks to his five-point day (3g, 2a). All five points came in the second half. He has only been held without a point once in his entire career. In those 49 games, Wilson has tallied 82 goals and 51 assists for 133 points. Wilson, named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, has scored 11 goals in the last four games. MCSORLEY MAGNIFICENT AGAIN Sophomore Joe McSorley made nine saves and allowed just seven goals on Saturday. He lowered his goals-against average to 8.94 and now owns a .569 save percentage. In his last four starts, McSorley owns a 6.96 goals-against average and a .625 save percentage. GAME NOTES In addition to his first collegiate goal, Badgett also added an assist for his first career two-point game. He also gathered two ground balls in a complete effort. Snyder won a career-high 12 faceoffs and collected a career-best four ground balls. He took all 28 draws for BU and also collected his first collegiate assist. Ruiz (1g, 2a) and MacLean (1g, 2a) each finished with three points. Gray has recorded at least one point in all six games this year. Junior Drew Lukacs recorded a career-high four ground balls. Sophomore Kaveh Torabian collected a career-high two ground balls. Seniors Colin MacDougall and Tommy Connelly each recorded one save. NEXT UP: COLGATE BU will head to return home on Saturday, March 10, for a Patriot League contest against Colgate at Nickerson Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
