The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 15-9 to the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon in the first of a two-game series at Cooper Field in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Golden Eagles improve to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. Head Coach Ricky Fried "Marquette earned the victory today. They outplayed us, they outhustled us and we were passive. When things got tough, we shrunk so we need to figure out a way to get tougher and play with more discipline before Sunday." How it Happened Marquette got on the board early before an unassisted tally from freshman Kylie Hazen sparked a 4-0 run for the Blue &Gray. The run was capped off by a shot and rebound play as junior Celia Walsh scored and senior Mary Pagano tallied the assist. The Golden Eagles would stop the momentum, but Hazen once again had an answer knocking down the goal on the pass from classmate Katie Goldsmith. GU added a pair of free position goals from Walsh and classmate Ali Diamond to make it 7-3 with 10:58 remaining in the half. Marquette would come roaring back with a 4-0 run and even a goal from senior Caroline Frock at 1:23 didn't stop it, as MU scored one more before the end of the half to tie the game at eight at the break. The Blue & Gray scored early in the second half as a falling goal from graduate student Natalia Lynch shooting low gave the Hoyas the lead. That would be the end of the scoring for the Hoyas as Marquette staged a 7-0 run to end the game resulting in the 15-9 final. Of Note Frock, Walsh and Hazen led the way for the Hoyas with two goals apiece. Lynch also tallied two goals coupled with three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Georgetown outshot Marquette 33-32, and the teams tied on the draw with 13 each. The Hoya defense forced 15 turnovers. In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven managed nine saves. Up Next In the second game in the conference series, GU will host the Golden Eagles at noon on Sunday at Cooper Field. The contest will be streamed live on HoyaVision ($) and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com. Fan Information All Georgetown women's lacrosse home games are currently scheduled to be played at Cooper Field.
