Capping a record-breaking performance with a sudden victory goal in overtime, senior Morgan Cheek set a program record with 13 points as Harvard men's lacrosse stormed back from a six-goal fourth quarter deficit to defeat Boston University, 19-18, on Tuesday night at Harvard Stadium. Cheek led an explosive Harvard offense with 13 points on five goals and eight assists, while senior Joe Lang pitched in nine points (four goals, five assists) and sophomore Kyle Anderson tallied eight (seven goals, one assist). The 30 combined points between the starting attack group also set a program record. Freshman Steven Cuccurullo earned 20 wins from the faceoff X, including a series of clutch wins to help Harvard to the comeback win. The Crimson (6-1) got out to an early 4-1 lead over the Terriers (4-5), as senior Carney Mahon, Lang and Anderson found the back of the net, but the Terriers rebounded to score eight of the next 12 goals to take a 9-7 lead into halftime. The BU run continued into the start of the fourth quarter, where the Terriers pushed their lead to six goals, 18-12, with 7:06 to play in regulation. Just seven seconds after what would end up as the final Boston University goal, Cheek scored off the feed from Cuccurullo to start the dramatic comeback. Anderson scored four consecutive goals over a span of 4:24, and pulled Harvard within one with 1:12 to play after converting a man-up opportunity. Cuccurullo won the ensuing faceoff, and Cheek set up Lang for the game-tying goal with 48 seconds to play, sending the game to overtime. Harvard won the opening faceoff in overtime, and Cheek juked an opponent behind the net before firing home the game winning goal just a minute into the extra period. The six-goal comeback is the largest under head coach Chris Wojcik. Harvard Highlights Cheek set a program record with 13 points (5G, 8A), breaking the program record set by Devin Dwyer '16 and Mike Eckert '96. With the 13 points, Cheek jumped to fifth on Harvard's all-time list with 177. Cheek combined with Lang (4G, 5A) and Anderson (7G, 1A) to break the program record by an attacking group, with 30 combined points between them. The nine and eight points, respectively, for Lang and Anderson are career-highs. The seven goals for Anderson were a career-high, and the most for a Harvard player since Cheek netted nine against Brown in 2016.
