The No. 17 University of Michigan men's lacrosse fell on the road to the No. 9 Rutgers Scarlet Knights by a 16-8 count Sunday (April 8) at Rutgers' High Point Solutions Stadium. Michigan (7-4, 0-2 B1G) outshot the Scarlet Knights (8-3, 1-1 B1G), 10-8, in the first quarter, but trailed 2-0 at the end of the quarter after going 0-for-3 on man-up chances in the stanza. Rutgers then followed with an offensive barrage in the second, notching six goals, resulting in U-M trailing, 8-0, at the half. Rutgers' Kieran Mullins had four of the eight goals in the half for RU, while Jules Heningburg had a trio of assists. U-M senior goalie Tommy Heidt made six saves in the first half of action. After being shut out for the first 34:02 of the contest, freshman Alex Buckanavage put an end to the scoreless drought at the 10:58 mark of the third on a sweep from goal-line extended. U-M went on to add a pair of scores in the quarter courtesy of Buckanavage (1:46) and junior Rocco Sutherland (28 seconds) as Michigan trailed, 14-3, at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, Michigan outscored the Scarlet Knights, 5-2, with markers coming from freshman Kevin Mack (10:20) and Buckanavage (9:19), junior Brent Noseworthy (6:33), Sutherland (5:34), and senior BJ Mattheiss (2:17). Heidt made six saves in three quarters of action before giving way to junior Gunner Garn, who made three saves in one quarter of action. RU's Mullins finished with eight goals and one assist, while Heningburg totals a goal and five assists (six points).
