– John Piatelli and Jake McCullough scored three goals each to lead #10 Cornell to a 12-9 Ivy League win over Brown at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Cornell improves to 9-4, 3-2 in the Ivy League, while Brown falls to 5-8 overall, 2-3 in Ivy play. With the Ivy League Tournament two weeks away, next week's league games will determine the final tournament pairings. Brown needs a win over Dartmouth in Hanover, NH and a Princeton loss to Cornell to gain its fourth straight Ivy Tournament berth as the fourth seed. "As expected, another hard fought league opponent," said Brown head coach Mike Daly. "I'm proud of our team and their fight." Brown was paced by sophomore Ryan Aughavin (Glen Head, NY) and junior Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT), who scored two goals each. Freshman Darian Cook (Redding, CT) had a goal and three assists. Bears' junior goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) registered 10 saves in the Brown net, while Cornell goalie Chayse Ierlan had 12 saves. Aughavin's first goal with 12:29 left in the first quarter tied the game, 1-1. Cornell went on a streak and scored the game's next five goals to pull ahead, 6-1, following a score by Clark Petterson with 6:57 left in the second quarter. The Big Red led, 7-2, at the half, and extended their lead to 8-2 early in the third quarter. Brown made a furious comeback bid, scoring six of the next seven goals to pull to within one goal, 9-8. Kniffin scored both of his goals in the spurt, while George Pike (Woodside, CA), Michael Brown (Wilton, CT), Aughavin, and George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) scored one goal each. The Big Red put the game away with three straight goals for a 12-8 advantage, before Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) scored for the Bears with one second remaining. Brown's final non-league game will be played on Tuesday evening, April 23 against Bryant in Smithfield, RI. Face-off is 7:00 pm at Beirne Stadium.
