BURLINGTON, Vt. – Ally Kennedy scored seven goals for No. 6 Stony Brook Saturday afternoon as the Seawolves defeated Vermont 19-8 from Virtue Field in America East action. With the win, the Seawolves are now 5-0 in league play while the Catamounts are 3-2. "We got back to focusing on ourselves and will use this as a stepping stone this week." HOW IT HAPPENED The Catamounts opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the contest. Riley Halloran notched her third of the season off a feed from Ava Vasile. Stony Brook responded with four goals from four different scorers in 3:40 to take a 4-1 lead. The Seawolves used two 3-0 runs over the final 16 minutes of the half to take a 12-4 lead at the break. Ava Vasile and Dani Paterno scored for Vermont in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was Vasile's second goal of the game and 18th of the season. Paterno notched her seventh of the year down a player. Paterno's tally made it 14-6 with 20:04 left in regulation. Paterno added another goal with 16:28 left in the half to make it 16-7. It was Paterno's third multi-goal game of the season. The Seawolves closed the game on a 4-1 run to finish off their seventh win in a row. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Riley Halloran had a game-high four points for the Catamounts with one goal and three assists. Sophomore goaltender Jordan Shipp made her second appearance of the season, making five saves for the Catamounts. Sophie McLaughlin who got the start for Vermont made seven saves. Ava Vasile and MacKenzie Bolt were tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers. WHO'S NEXT The Catamounts are back in action next weekend as they hit the road in America East competition. UVM will face UMass Lowell on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. The action will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV.
