It was a crosstown showdown for the Siena Saints on Saturday afternoon, as they squared off against the University of Albany Great Danes at Casey Stadium. Despite taking an 8-7 lead with 24:51 remaining in the fourth, Albany ran off a 7-0 run to top the Saints 14-8 to end the Saints three-game win streak. Siena (3-4) was led by a three point day from sophomore Kerry Gerety, as she scored twice and tossed up an assist. Kaitlyn Dowsett and Mary Soures each scored twice as well, while Julia Pelcher and Annie Brennan each scored once also. Senior goalie Sammy Horton made 14 saves on the game in the loss. Leading Albany (4-3) was led by a five-goal day from Kyla Zapolski, scoring her five goals on nine shots. Madison Conway and Sam Tortora each collected four points, as Conway scored a goal with three assists while Tortora scored three times with one assist. Kendra Harbinger and Hannah Newman each put up three points each as well. Goalie Erin Leghart played the second half, snagging her second win of the season making a pair of saves. The Great Danes came out early with a pair of goals within the first five minutes, as Conway and Carroll each scored to make it 2-0 Albany. Soures would break the ice for the Saints at the 13:48 mark, scoring off a free position to cut the lead to 2-1. Siena would ultimately pull even when Brennan scored to make it 3-3 with 9:02 to play. That led to UAlbany putting up another two goals, followed by a 3-0 run from Siena capped by a Soures goal with 40 seconds to play to give Siena the 6-5 lead. However, the Great Danes found the back of the net with 19 seconds to play in the first half, as Newman scored to put the score at 6-6 at the half. It would be UAlbany getting the slight advantage to open the second half, scoring just under four minutes in to take a 7-6 lead. However, Siena would fight back and once again take the lead, as Pelcher scored off a free position just 18 seconds later to tie the game. Just a minute later, Dowsett scored off an assist from Gerety to give the Saints the lead back at 8-7. That would be the last Siena would see of the lead, as UAlbany put up their 7-0 run through the final horn to take the victory. Siena went 3-for-6 off free position opportunities, and competed in ground balls as the teams tied at 16 in that category. However, Albany topped the Green and Gold in shots 33-19 and in draw controls 15-8. The Saints will return to action this Tuesday, when they head to Olean, NY to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Opening draw goes up at 3 p.m.
