PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Emma DeGennaro (Huntington, N.Y.) scored four of her five goals in the second half to help the Brown women's lacrosse team overcome an 8-4 deficit and defeat Harvard, 10-9, on Saturday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears went on a 6-1 run over the last 15 minutes to pull off the comeback. The win brings Brown to 3-3 in the Ivy League and 7-7 overall while Harvard falls to 1-5 in conference action and 6-8 on the year. "It was such an awesome team win," said head coach Keely McDonald. "I am so proud of the team and the coaching staff. The preparation this week and game adjustments were key." DeGennaro led the Bears in scoring with five goals, four coming on the free position. Freshman Claire Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist while fellow rookie Sophia DeRosa (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) also put in two scores. Trailing 6-3 after one half, Harvard pushed its lead up to four (8-4) at 21:13 of the second on a score from Keeley MacAfee. From there, Brown mounted its comeback with two-straight free-position goals by DeGennaro at 14:27 and 13:32 for a two-goal deficit. The Crimson got one back at 10:46 but the Bears closed the final period with four consecutive free-position goals for the victory. DeRosa notched the first goal of the sequence at 7:59 and was soon followed by DeGennaro at 7:15. Sophomore Risa Mosenthal (Campton, N.H.) scored the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining while Jeschke recorded the game winner with three minutes left. Brown held the advantage for shots in the second at 12-9 and also had a 6-5 edge in draw controls. The Bears benefited greatly from free-positon shots, with six of their seven goals in the stanza coming from the free position. Harvard held Brown to its fewest goals of the season in the first half and built a 6-3 advantage. After a DeRosa score at 24:41 tied the contest (1-1), the Crimson didn't trail again until three minutes were remaining in the game, scoring five times over the next 15:37 for a 6-1 lead. Jeschke and DeGennaro closed the opening frame with scores at 7:43 and 1:16, respectively, for the halftime score of 6-3. The Crimson outshot the Bears 12-10 in the first and had a 6-4 lead in draw controls. Each team attempted five free-position shots with Harvard converting on three and Brown on two. In net, freshman Erin Tucker (Centerport, N.Y.) finished the day with six saves for the Bears while Grace Rotondo turned away seven shots for the Crimson. MacAfee led the Harvard attack with four goals and an assist while Bridget Flynn contributed two goals. Defensively for the Bears, junior Emily Fryer (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and freshman Erin Schafer (Pleasanton, Calif.) both caused three turnovers and each added to two draw controls. With a goal and an assist today, Mosenthal moves up to seventh in the Brown record book with 57 points on the season while her 49 goals are third best, trailing only her freshman total of 55 and Suzanne Bailey '91 (60). Sophomore Mason Warble (Bronxville, N.Y.) also moves up in the program record book with her two caused turnovers today and is now tied for ninth with Erin Roos '14 with 28 in a season.
