Thirteen different Seahawks scored goals, led by hat tricks from freshman midfielder Ally Alliegro and sophomore midfielder Stephanie Falcone, as the Wagner women's lacrosse team ran past Central Connecticut 20-6 on Senior Day to claim a share of the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season championship on Sunday at Hameline Field. Prior to the contest, Wagner honored Heidi Colford, Lucy Darlington, Lauren Ednie, Kelsey Fee, Carolyn Marron and April Simmons with a ceremony as part of Senior Day, recognizing the contributions the six seniors have made to both the program and the College throughout their careers on Grymes Hill. Coupled with Bryant's 12-6 loss to Mount St. Mary's today, the Seahawks and the Bulldogs are the Co-NEC Champions with matching 6-1 league records. Bryant, with head-to-head competition as the first tiebreaker, however, had already clinched the No. 1 seed and home field advantage in next week's NEC Tournament based on Friday's 11-10 comeback win over Wagner. The NEC tourney semifinals are set for Thursday, May 3. Second-seeded Wagner will play third-seeded Robert Morris in one semifinal with No. 1 seeded Bryant meeting fourth-seeded Mount St. Mary's. The winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday, May 5. With the today's victory, the Seahawks improve to 11-5 overall on the season with the 11 wins tying the program record set by the 2002 and 2014 teams, which compiled records of 11-6 and 11-7, respectively. Today's outcome was never in doubt as the Green & White raced out to a quick 6-0 lead, with two of the goals coming from senior attack Heidi Colford, en route to building a commanding 14-3 halftime lead. The Seahawks scored the first two goals of the second half in extending their lead to 16-3 and never looked back. In addition to her three goals, Alliegro added two assists on the day in finishing with five points, which matched the five-point output supplied by junior attack Anna Belle Reilly (1g, 4a). Recording four points apiece for the Seahawks were Colford (2g, 2a), senior midfielder Lauren Ednie (1g, 3a, game-high 7 draw controls), and freshman midfielder Erin Kerstetter (2g, 2a, team-high 3 groundballs), while Falcone's hat trick gave her three points. Supplying one goal apiece for Wagner were junior attack Marjorie Dehm, senior midfielder April Simmons, sophomore midfielders Cassidy Hall and Meghan Pendergast, sophomore attack Talia Bouzakis, freshman attack Stefani Peluso, along with freshmen midfielders Jacqui Thorsen and Madeline Seims. Freshman midfielder Victoria Tucci chipped in with an assist to join those who finished with one point on the afternoon. In goal, senior Lucy Darlington improved her season record to 10-3 after allowing just three goals, to go with three saves, during the first half. Classmate Kelsey Fee then came on the play the second half, also limiting the opposition to just three goals while coming up with four saves. Statistically, Wagner held a sizeable edge in shots (35-17), groundballs (24-18) and draw controls (18-10). For Central, the Blue Devils were led by Morgan Stinton's three points which came on two goals and one assist.
