Sophomore Hayley Kmack found the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the overtime period to lift Siena (6-4, 2-0 MAAC) over Canisius 17-16 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. Canisius (0-10, 0-2 MAAC) senior Jourdan Roemer tallied a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists to pace the Golden Griffins offense that scored a season-high 16 goals. Sophomore Marissa Malvaso found the back of the net four times, three of which came on free-position attempts. Graduate-students Jen Reininger and Rachel Heidenreich, as well as freshman Megan Hoffman tallied two goals apiece in the loss. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert started her third game of the season, making 11 stops in-between the pipes. Junior Annie Brennan redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Dowsett combined for nine of Siena's 17 goals. Sophomore Nicole McNeely recorded five points with three goals and two helpers in the winning effort. Goaltender, senior Sammy Horton made eight saves in net for the Saints. Siena outshot the Blue and Gold 28-22 and won 18 of the games 35 draws. Canisius jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Roemer and Malvaso. However, Siena quickly sparked a 4-0 run to take a two-goal lead with just 12 minutes gone in the first. After Canisius tied it 4-4, each team traded tallies for the following ten minutes of the period before Siena recorded the final two marks of the half , taking a 9-7 advantage into the locker rooms. With six minutes gone in the second half and Siena holding an 11-8 lead over the Griffs, Canisius broke off three straight goals from Hoffman, junior Bryar Cummings and Marissa Malvaso to even the score, 11-11. From there, Canisius and Siena would trade goals for the remainder of the game, sending it to overtime. The Griffs failed to score in their lone possession during the extra frame as Hoffman's shot was saved by the Horton. After calling timeout, Siena worked the ball around the back of the net to Kmack, who then slipped by the Canisius defense and found the back of the net to send Siena home with the win.
