Virginia Tech (7-3, 2-0) fell behind early, but regrouped and relied on excellent performances in the attack by Emma Harden and Julia Bolte to defeat Delaware 17-10 Sunday afternoon. The win is Tech’s third in succession and sixth in seven tries in Blacksburg in 2018. “Delaware is a talented team and we knew that coming in, so I’m proud of how we regrouped after that first stretch and found a way to win today,” said head coach John Sung. Tech trailed 3-0 at the 20:47 mark, following Mia DeRuggierio’s goal. The Hokies responded with a 3-0 run of their own, with goals coming from Paige Petty and Tristan McGinley. “We won the draw control battle today which was huge. Tristan McGinley did a great job with that today winning 13 and setting up our offense,” Sung said. Bolte played perhaps the best game of her career at Tech, tallying four goals and also providing four assists on the afternoon. Harden tallied a career-high five goals, leading Tech in that category. Since March 7, Harden, a senior has scored 10 of her 15 goals on the season. Meagh Graham earned the win, making seven saves. McGinley also had a standout day, scoring five points and collecting 13 draw controls in the midfield. NEXT UP: Tech remains home this week, for a Wednesday matchup with the VCU Rams at 5 p.m. That contest is scheduled to take place at Thompson Field.
