Tessa Chad scored five goals, but the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team fell 15-14 to Virginia Tech Saturday at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. "It was a great lacrosse game, we battled through some adversity. We didn't come out of the gates the way we'd like to and we spotted them a 4-0 lead, but from then on we battled all the way through," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We did what we needed to do at the end of the game to get the ball and get within one, but unfortunately we didn't make plays down the stretch to get the win." After falling behind 4-0, Louisville (6-7, 0-4 ACC) registered six unanswered goals to take a lead it held until late in the second half. Julia Wood ignited the Cardinals' run, followed by a goal from Alex McNicholas. Chad added two goals during that stretch to give Louisville a 6-4 lead. Chad provided three more first half goals to lift the Cardinals to an 11-7 lead heading into the break. Chad's five first half goals is tied for third most in program history. Paige Petty scored three of her seven goals in the second half, as Virginia Tech (10-4, 3-1) used a 5-0 run to regain its first lead since the opening minutes. Taylor Caskey capped the run with a goal at 4:01 to put the Hokies ahead 15-13. McNicholas tied her season high with eight draw controls, while adding three assists and one goal. "I thought Alex (McNicholas) played the best I've seen her today, she contributed offensively, she's doing a better job on the draw and giving us a fighting chance and she made some plays defensively," said Teeter. In addition to Chad, Madison Hoover and Jillian Balog each recorded hat tricks in the loss. Caroline Blalock had a game high seven ground balls for Louisville, which held a 24-17 advantage over the Hokies. Up next, the Cardinals travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for an ACC matchup against North Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m.
