No. 17/14 Virginia Tech scored 31 seconds into the second overtime to defeat No. 14/18 Syracuse, 15-14, in women's lacrosse action on Saturday, April 7. Junior Nicole Levy tied her career high with six goals and finished with a career-high seven points to lead the Orange. In addition, sophomore Emily Hawryschuk and freshman Sam Swart scored three goals apiece. HOW IT WAS DECIDED The Orange (8-6, 0-4) led by two at halftime, 6-4, but Virginia Tech (11-4, 4-1) fought back and the score was tied, 9-9, with 15:45 remaining in regulation. Swart scored her third goal of the day for the first of four straight for Syracuse, which gave it a 13-9 advantage at the 10:18 mark. Junior Julie Cross scored on an assist from Taylor Gait before Hawryschuk and Levy found the back of the net. Marissa Davey halted the Orange's scoring run and sparked Virginia Tech on a 4-0 offensive outburst that tied the game for the third time in the second half. Syracuse again took the lead on Hawryschuk's free-position goal, but the Hokies answered with Taylor Caskey's free-position goal to send the game to overtime. After neither team could take advantage of its possessions in the first overtime, Virginia Tech won the draw to start the second extra session and Tristan McGinley scored on an assist from Julia Bolte for the 15-14 final.
