DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior attacker Taylor Cuenin scored four goals, junior Amanda Outcalt posted three assists, and senior goalkeeper Grace Richards recorded 13 saves, helping UC Davis hold visiting Central Michigan to just two first-half goals en route to its 12-8 win in collegiate women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Friday. The Aggies even their record to 4-4 overall. The Chippewas drop to 2-3 for the year. Juniors Maddie Myers and Kate Graham each had two goals and an assist for three total points. Sophomore midfielder Mar Alvear added a goal and assist plus a game-high five draw controls for UC Davis. Senior midfielder Jocelyne Lemay led CMU with three goals and had two draw controls and three ground balls. UC Davis stifled its guests to just 2-for-14 shooting before halftime, which the back-line unit of Addie Dearden, Anna Belenis, Ally Deremer and Natalie Garces at work. Richards totaled seven saves in the first half as the Aggies held a 4-2 lead. Oddly, the Chippewas managed the first goals of the contest, holding a 2-0 lead as late as the 20th minute. However, Cuenin scored three straight, then Graham netted back-to-back in a 5-0 run that resulted in a 5-2 Aggie advantage by the 31st minute. CMU managed to close the gap to 8-6 by the 44th minute on a Jessica Schuchardt goal. The Aggies again had an answer: Cuenin, Sorana Larson, Alvear and Myers found the back of the net in a 4-1 run during the next eight minutes that effectively put the contest out of reach. UC Davis won the majority of draws, holding a 13-8 advantage in that category. CMU had more ground balls (20-15) and fewer turnovers (10-12), but shot just .250 (8-for-32) for the contest. The Aggies head to San Diego for neutral-site action against two Patriot League teams: Bucknell on Sunday, Lehigh on Tuesday. San Diego State will host both games.
