PITTSBURGH - Holding a slim 18-17 lead over visiting Central Michigan, Duquesne scored six of the final seven goals of the game en route to a 24-18 victory over the Chippewas on Friday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field. The Dukes improve to 5-1 on the season while Central Michigan drops to 2-5 with the loss. HOW IT HAPPENED A back-and-forth first half saw the Chippewas take a 12-11 lead heading into the locker room. Central Michigan held a 14-12 edge before Duquesne responded with four straight goals to gain a 16-14 advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining. After the Chippewas answered with a score, Sarah Kollhoff and Maddie Hart each netted goals to put the Dukes ahead 18-15. Central Michigan registered two consecutive goals to shrink the deficit to 18-17. Duquesne would counter with six of the next seven goals, including three from Rilee Bradshaw and a pair from Hart o secure the 24-18 win. KEY STATS Duquesne's 24 goals represented a season high. The Dukes' previous season high was 23 set against Detroit Mercy. Duquesne outshot the Chippewas 56-23 including 44-22 on shots on goal. The Dukes held a 26-18 advantage on draw controls with a 16-4 edge in the second half. Duquesne also picked up 25 ground balls compared to Central Michigan's 15. Maddie Hart recorded a career-high seven goals for the Dukes. Hart matched a single-game program record with 13 draw controls. She set this school record last season vs. Niagara. Michaela Connolly tallied four goals and an assist for Duquesne while also racking up a team-high five ground balls. Courtney Battles finished with a hat trick to go with an assist. Rilee Bradshaw recorded her fourth-straight hat trick, with all three goals coming in the last 9:59 of the contest. Sarah Kollhoff and Haley Matthai each netted a pair of goals while Matthai registered a team-high three caused turnovers. Lauren Bonino picked up her first collegiate win in the cage with four saves.
