Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) finished off a six point afternoon with an overtime game winning goal as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team scored its first win of the season by rallying past Marywood, 10-9 in the extra session. After falling behind 4-0 after the first period and 6-0 following a Rob Maini tally with just under eight minutes to go in the second stanza, the Knights outscored the Pacers 10-4, including 6-2 after halftime. Mount Saint Mary got on the board with 6:09 left before halftime when Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) potted a man-up goal and sliced its deficit in half with goals from Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.). Marywood went on to spread its lead back to three goals heading into the break on a Rob Maini tally with 23 seconds left in the period. After 30 minutes of action, Marywood held a 19-12 advantage in overall shots and a 12-8 edge in shots on goal. The Pacers picked up 20 groundballs before halftime and won seven of the 12 face-offs contested prior to the intermission. Coming out of the break, the Mount scored three straight goals to start the third quarter, but was unable to pull in front. Kenneth Atkins (Wallkill, N.Y.), Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Graziano accounted for the goals over the run, but Matt Mitarotonda scored late in the third frame to give Marywood back a one goal lead at 8-7. The fourth period featured just two tallies, with Maini potting his fifth of the game to give the visitors a 9-8 lead with 4:35 left in regulation, before Kugler found the back of the net for the second time in the game just 12 seconds later to knot the score and get the game to overtime. Just a minute into the extra period, De Meo found the back of the cage for the fourth time this season and gave the Knights their only lead of the game on an unassisted tally. De Meo finished the game with the game winning goal and five assists to move his helper total to nine and his point total to a team best 13. De Meo stands in fourth place all-time at the Mount in points following Tuesday's output with 148, just eight points out of second. He holds third in assists with 76 and is just six away from second place in that category. Graziano scored three times for the Knights in the win, with Gallagher and Kugler each netting a pair of goals. Michael Capetola (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) finished with five groundballs and a caused turnovers, while Joseph Timmons (Staten Island, N.Y.) won nine face-offs. Maini led the Marywood offensive attack with five goals, with Matt Casto posting a goal and three helpers. Riley Litman won 13 face-offs for the Pacers and led all players in the game with six groundballs. Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal with 13 saves, moving his season total to 26. He added five groundballs in the victory. Vinny Biancardi suffered the loss with 10 stops for the visitors. Overall, Marywood finished with the advantage in overall shots 45-29, shots on goal 22-20 and groundballs 36-24. The Knights finished 16-for-20 on clearing chances and scored on half of their four extra man chances. Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 1-1 overall on the season. The Knights return to action on Saturday when they play host to Cazenovia. Face-off with the Wildcats is set for 1:00 p.m.
