The La Salle women's lacrosse team used a scoring flurry in the second half to cap off a dramatic comeback in a crucial win over VCU. Emily Johnston scored five second half goals to led the comeback on the offensive end, including the decisive goal in the game's final minutes. Together, the Explorers scored six of the last seven goals of the game. The win was much-needed as La Salle fights for a spot in the Atlantic 10 tournament. After the day, La Salle is seventh in the A-10 with the same record as sixth-placed Davidson, which holds the tiebreaker. The top six teams make the postseason. La Salle trailed early on and, in fact, scored just four goals in what was a defensive first half. Bridget Ruskey scored all three of her goals in that frame. After halftime, Rachel Ceplo scored on an assist by Johnston and then Annina Iacobucci scored just minutes later. At the 17:11 mark, Johnston scored the first of her five goals. In the next 4:10, she scored three more goals. The Explorers scored five goals in just over three minutes total. Iacobucci's third goal of the game tied it at 11. Sayde Walker gave La Salle their first lead of the game on a goal that was again assisted by Johnston. After a VCU goal to tie the game, Johnston scored again with just over two minutes left. Johnston also finished with a team-high seven draw controls. Isabel Caddick had four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Rusky and Abby Meehan also caused three turnovers. The Explorers play Richmond on Sunday at noon before returning home.
