CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-10 heartbreaker to ASUN opponent Liberty, Sunday afternoon inside Brooks Stadium on the campus of the Chanticleers in Conway. The loss dropped CCU to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in the conference while the Flames improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in ASUN conference action. Sunday's match was Coastal's Lax-4-Life game. Lax-4 Life is a national lacrosse campaign to provide and support programs geared toward adolescent and young adult suicide prevention awareness. The goals for Lax-4 Life; raise awareness for suicide prevention, erase the stigma associated with suicide and depression, educate parents, coaches, students, and the community about the warning signs and issues associated with suicide, understanding and assisting students with the pressures of life in high school and college, provide resources and outlets for those dealing with depression, bullying or suicidal thoughts, and help aid those left behind after a suicide. Senior Haley Alexander led the team tallying six points on four goals and two assists while Samantha Courtemanche (two goals and one assist) and Lauren Cremen (two goals) each contributed with multiple goals scored. Madeline Bromley and Jordan Harrell each tallied one goal and one assist each for the offensive attack. The Chanticleers got on the scoreboard first when Harrell fired a shot by the visiting goalkeeper on a free position attempt for the 1-0 lead with 27:21 left in the opening stanza. Liberty answered with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead when Anna Keebler found the back of the net off the Jenna Joyal assist followed by Brianna McCaffrey unassisted goal with 26:06 remaining until the half. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half, with the Flames grabbing a two-goal lead twice, Carly White made it 5-3 with 13:03 remaining, Courtemanche made it a one-score game when Alexander found her in the eight-meter wide open with 11:24 on the game clock. Kayla Foster pushed the lead back to two, 4-6, with her unassisted goal with 8:08 left in the first half. Coastal Carolina closed the first half with three unanswered goals to take a 7-6 halftime lead, Alexander scored twice in five minutes sandwiching a Cremen goal, the later one coming off the feed from Lyla Robinson with 42 seconds until the intermission. The Flames opened the second half scoring when Joyal and Foster put the visitors in front 8-7 with 22:41 remaining in regulation. Bromley evened the match up at 8-8 on a free position with 21:47 left to play before Alexander picked up the final two goals for Coastal with Robinson (18:35) and Harrell (16:57) getting the assist and a two-goal lead. Liberty closed out the match with a 3-0 run for the final tally of 11-10. Defensively, the Chanticleers caused 11 turnovers with Hannah Krin, Haley Wells, and Emily D'Orsaneo each forced two.
