The elusive 5'1" Kerstetter, who Seahawk first-year head coach Michelle Tumolo termed "the fastest player in the NCAA," seemed to be all over the field throughout the contest, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers, including one in the last seconds of the game that preserved the 12-11 win. In winning their second consecutive contest, coming on the heels of Friday's 17-5 win at Quinnipiac, Wagner improves to 3-2 on the season while the Red Raiders fall to 2-3. In a back-and-forth battle that featured four ties and four lead changes, it was Colgate that managed the lead at halftime, by a 6-5 count. Wagner opened the second half on a 3-2 spurt, keyed by consecutive free position goals by Falcone and sophomore midfielder Madeline Seims, pulling the game even at 8-8 with 19:34 to play. Colgate then went on a 2-1 spurt, capped by a Lindsay West goal with 13:39 left, in taking a 10-9 lead. Wagner then went on to a game-changing, quick-strike 3-0 run in a span of less than three minutes, beginning with Falcone's second goal, this one off a feed from sophomore attack Stefani Peluso with 11:17 left, that forged the game's fourth tie at 10-10. Less than one minute later, Peluso cashed in on what would become the game-winning goal, a blast with 10:28 left, to give the Seahawks the lead for good at 11-10. Falcone completed then completed the hat trick and 3-0 run with an unassisted score with 9:46 to go, to give Wagner a 12-10 lead. That's the way the score remained until Colgate's Noelle Patterson struck at he 3:00 mark to make it 12-11. The Seahawk defense, keyed by Kerstetter's speed and grit, were able to shut down the Red Raiders the rest of the way as Wagner held on for the 12-11 win. Peluso tied Falcone and Reilly for game-high scoring honors with three (2g, 1a). Seims' two goals gave her two points for the game while sophomore midfielder Victoria Tucci added one goal. Freshman Lauren DiStefano came on in relief of senior Kelsey Fee and provided an important 19:46 of time in goal, recording one save. Since Wagner took the lead with DiStefano in goal, she was the winning goalie of record although Fee acquitted herself well, recording six saves in her 40:14 of action, having returned to the final tense 2:55 of the game. West led Colgate with three goals while Annelise Kotz, Tara Atkinson, and Patterson all finished with two goals apiece. In goal, Samantha Croston came up with 17 saves. Wagner held a narrow edge in all of the major statistical carries, holding the lead in shots (34-32), 7) free positon shots (5-of-12 to 2-of-7), ground balls (23-18), and draw controls (13-12). The Seahawks were 20-of-21 on clears while the Red Raiders were 17-of-20 in this category. The Green & White are next in action on Sunday, March 10 when the Seahawks host UMass Lowell in a 1:00 p.m. start.
