HAMILTON – A 13-goal second half fueled the Colgate women's lacrosse program dominant 16-4 victory over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon on Beyer-Small '76 Field. The first and second halves of the Patriot League matchup couldn't be more opposite, as it took over 12:00 of action after the first draw before either team cracked onto the scoreboard. At 17:41, Lehigh broke the scoring drought to gain a 1-0 lead nearly midway through the opening half before quickly gaining a 2-0 advantage by capitalizing on a free position shot. It wasn't until 7:23 remaining in the half when the Raiders found their way onto the scoreboard, and they did so in an explosive way. A feed from behind the net by Tara Atkinson was received by Annelise Kotz for her 12th of the year making it a one-goal game, before Kyra Weiner earned her fourth of the year to tie it in the final minutes. Colgate then extended to a three-goal scoring run as Jacklyn Hooey tallied a low goal on a free position shot as the Raider offense powered ahead by a 3-2 edge. Although Lehigh held an initial 2-0 lead, the teams returned for the second half in a 3-3 tie and the narrow margin wouldn't remain for long. Lindsay West tallied three goals in the first 5:35 to put the Raiders up with a 6-3 advantage by scoring on a free position shot followed by back-to-back breakaways down the field that ignited Colgate's 13-goal second half. Lehigh scored a lone goal in the second stretch of 30:00, briefly interrupting Colgate's 6-1 run, but the Mountain Hawks couldn't hold off the resistant Raider offense. Down to the final 1:04 of play, Colgate powered ahead with a 10-goal scoring run that fueled its 16-4 victory. STATISTICAL STANDOUTS • Leading the team offensively was junior Lindsay West as she tallied a career-high of four goals on the day. She surpassed her third hat trick of the season and now holds 16 goals on the year. West also led the Colgate squad with 10 shots on goal. • For a five-point day, sophomore Danielle Van Calcar posted three goals and two assists. The performance marked her fifth multi-goal game as she extends to a four-game scoring streak. • Senior Tara Atkinson recorded a team-leading six points on the day, all of which were assists. The number is just one shy of her career-high point production of seven earned at Holy Cross (March 23). Atkinson also tops the team with her 35 points on the season, which is now a career-best in a single season for the Cold Spring Harbor, New York native. • Fueling the Raiders victory was junior goalkeeper Samantha Croston as she made seven saves and only allowed four goals through the full 60:00. Behind only allowing just one goal to the Mountain Hawks in the second half, Croston tied her career-best of four goals allowed dating back to last season against Radford (March 13, 2018). • Topping the freshman class with her nine goals on the season, freshman Jacklyn Hooey now holds four tallies in the last four games. It also marked Hooey's second multi-goal game of the season after earning a hat trick against UMass Lowell (Feb. 23). • Behind two goals, sophomore Annelise Kotz now holds 13 on the year and earned her fourth multi-goal game of the season. • After scoring her fourth goal of the year, sophomore Kyra Weiner added a pair of assists for a career-high three point day. Weiner has now scored in three consecutive games and has tallied four goals in her last five games played. • By scoring Colgate's eighth goal, junior Noelle Patterson marked her team-leading 25th goal on the year and has scored in all 12 games this season. Additionally, Patterson led the team by winning four of Colgate's 12 draw controls. • Senior Kara Marzo marked her first goal of the season, and second in her career. By scoring Colgate's final goal on the day, Marzo tallied her first since at Davidson last season (March 10, 2018). • Freshman CC Telesco tallied her first career goal with the Colgate women's lacrosse program. • The box score was speckled with nine different goal scorers and 11 total Raiders earning a point. • Colgate held a 30-11 advantage in shots on goal and 12-10 in draw controls, and played a clean game keeping turnovers at 7-15 and fouls at 16-21 under the Mountain Hawks. • In conjunction with Lehigh, the Raiders also held its third annual Lace Up with Lax Day to collect new shoes to donate to the Salvation Army Children's Shelter of Syracuse. THE BOTTOM LINE • Colgate 16, Lehigh 4 RECORD UPDATES • Colgate holds a 5-7 record, and a 3-2 mark in Patriot League action. • Lehigh is 4-8 overall on the season, and is 0-5 in Patriot League play. COACH BEVILLE'S TAKE "I'm very proud of the way our girls played today. We played a tough first half, ending in a 3-3 score, then came out in the second half ready to execute and take over. As the season has progressed we've had different players step up each game which is going to be vital for success moving forward. Great team win today for the Raiders!" UP NEXT Colgate continues Patriot League play on the road next weekend, as it travels to American on Saturday, April 13. The Raiders then conclude their home slate on Wednesday, April 17 against Army.
