The sixth-ranked USC lacrosse team (2-2) was defeated, 9-5, by No. 15 Northwestern (4-1) at Martin Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 25. KEY PLAYERS Senior goalie Gussie Johns had four saves and four ground balls in the Trojans' defensive effort. She kept the Wildcats out of the goal for 27:18 consecutive minutes through the belly of the game. Northwestern's Selena Lasota broke an NU scoring record previously held by Lindsey Munday with her second goal and completed the contest with a hat trick. Danita Stroup led all scorers with three goals and an assist (four points) for the Wildcats. Shelby Fredericks had six draw controls to lead all players. HOW IT HAPPENED Down, 4-1, the Women of Troy took the lead thanks to a 4-0 scoring run that included goals by Emily Concialdi, Izzy McMahon, Maeve McMahon, and Kelsey Huff. Between 10:55 left in the first half and 13:37 in the second, the Trojans held the Wildcats scoreless for 27:18. The Wildcats broke the game open with a 5-0 scoring run that included all three of Selena Lasota's goals between 13:37 and 1:34. Northwestern then held on to complete the 9-5 win. UP NEXT USC will not play next week, but is back in action for the first of four consecutive home games. The Trojans will host No. 5-ranked Boston College on McAlister Field for a 3 p.m. PT game on Wednesday, March 7. The meeting is a rematch of last year's NCAA quarterfinal game in which the Eagles defeated the Trojans.
