Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) broke the NCAA Division I career record for both total points and assists on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium, as No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse downed UMBC by the final score of 22-7. With the win, the Seawolves move to 15-0 (6-0 AE) so far in 2018. Redshirt senior Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) led the program offensively in the win, tallying a career-high 11 points. QUOTING HEAD COACH Joe Spallina "We came out tight, and [UMBC] has a talented team. They hit us, and with 11 minutes to go (in the half), it was tied. The competition is good for us, and I was really happy with the way we responded from that point. You have to be able to deal with things and absorb a punch and respond, and I think today our program responded well. It's important for our team to know they can do that, and I'm happy with another good result." HIGHLIGHTS Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) broke the NCAA Division I career points record in the first half of play, surpassing the previous record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). She became the NCAA Division I career assist leader in the second half of play, breaking the previous record for helpers set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224). Ohlmiller now has 62 goals and 49 assists for 111 total points in 2018. Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) had eight goals and three assists in total, scoring six times in the first half of play. Murphy is now up to 66 goals and 23 assists for 89 total points this year. Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) added three goals and three assists for six points, Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) tallied three goals and two helpers for five points, and Siobhan Rafferty (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied two goals in the victory. Keri McCarthy (Hauppauge, N.Y.) grabbed seven total draw controls, and now needs just two more to break her own single-season program record (106). NOTES Stony Brook scored its highest goal total of the season in the win (22), just one goal shy of the program's single-game record. The Seawolves outshot UMBC 35-18 in total, including 25 shots in the first 30 minutes of play. The Seawolves caused seven turnovers, and picked up 18 total ground balls. Stony Brook won 21 of 31 draws. With the win, Stony Brook remains one of only two undefeated Division I teams. The Seawolves are now 9-8 all-time vs. UMBC, going 9-0 vs. the Retrievers since Joe Spallina's arrival as Stony Brook's head coach in 2012.
