NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time since 2011 and the 12th time in program history, the No. 19 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team are Ivy League Champions. The Big Green (11-4, 6-1 Ivy) posted a 23-9 win at Yale (6-9, 1-6 Ivy), Saturday at Reese Stadium, clinching a share of the conference crown. With a Princeton win at Cornell later in the day, the Big Green and Tigers will share the title, with the latter earning the No. 1 seed in next weekend's Ivy League Tournament and the former claiming the No. 2 seed. Dartmouth will play the third-seeded Penn Friday at 2 p.m., with Princeton taking on the fourth-seeded Cornell in the 5 p.m. game. A day in which several individuals reached milestone figures or set program records, it was still all about the team in the end. The 23 goals were a new season high and tied the program mark for most scored in an Ivy League contest with an April 11, 1998 game in which the Big Green defeated Cornell, 23-7. "Today's win was a result of so much focus, heart, and hustle," head coach Danielle Spencer said. "What a great way to wrap-up our regular season, and we can't wait to start the postseason!" Dartmouth's opening score was the 150th career point for Kierra Sweeney, while her third of the day was her 50th marker of the season. She finished the afternoon with five goals, as did Michelle Yu off the bench. Assisting on the Sweeney hat trick marker was Kellen D'Alleva, her second of four on the afternoon. But that second one was big as D'Alleva tied Jen Greene's 1998 single-season mark of 39. She would get the record on an Ellie Carson goal midway through the second half to become the program's leader and the only player in more than four decades to reach 40 helpers in a year. The senior would add another to finish the regular season with 41, while also scoring two goals of her own to bring her 2019 point total to 60. Yu's five were a new career high and came in front of a sea of family and friends as her sister Vanessa plays for the Bulldogs. Senior Elizabeth Mastrio scored three times and moved into 15th place all time on the Dartmouth scoring list with 145 points thanks in large part to 105 career goals. Fresh off scoring her 100th career point last week, Katie Bourque scored four times in the first half against Yale, powering the visitors to a 13-6 edge at halftime. In a battle of the two best all-time players in Ivy League history on the draw control, Dartmouth's Kathryn Giroux came out as the clear winner. Giroux was credited with 10 draws in the game, pushing her career total to 395, good for 12th in NCAA history. Giroux's 137 draws this season are a new program record. Yale's Izzy Nixon finished her final game in an Elis' uniform with five draws, pushing her Ivy League single-season record to 154, while finishing her career with 381, good for 13th all-time. Also scoring goals on Saturday were Giroux, Sophia Turchetta and Campbell Brewer. In goal, junior Kiera Vrindten was sharp when tested, finishing the afternoon with five saves in 57 minutes of action. She gave way in the final minutes to senior Charlotte Wahle.
