The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-11, 1-5) held Binghamton (7-8, 4-2) to just one goal in the second half, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 12-9 on Senior Night at Wicked Blue Field on Saturday night. Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) tied a season high in saves with 15 in the loss. "We had one of the best 30 minute stretches I've seen this club have all season, which was great," commented Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "Our second half defensively was, probably, the biggest, toughest, full on 30 minutes we've had. We had a rough patch in the first half that forced us to climb out of a bit of a hole and we just lost time to climb out of it." The pregame festivities saw River Hawk nation honor the seven members of the graduating Class of 2018. Seniors Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.), Kaylan DiModugno (Deer Park, N.Y.), Erin Hatch Billerica, Mass.), Ashley Horan (Methuen, Mass), Sheila Nolan (Massapequa, N.Y.), Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Austin Trasatti (Doylestown, Pa.) were honored as the first four-year, class in program history. "We were looking forward to senior night because this was teh first time we actually had a class full of seniors who have played four years here," commented Medeiros. "They own something really special. I think they banded together tonight as a group of seven and played their hearts out and left everything out on the field." "I've had a really good time here these four years," explained senior captain Taylor Sokol. "Everything has been so great through the ups and downs, the run tests, and the celebrations I've met some incredible people that I will never forget." Trasatti opened the scoring in the contest after almost 10 minutes of scoreless action after capitalizing on a free position attempt at 20:57 in the first. The Bearcats rattled off the next eight goals over a span of nearly 15 minutes to build themselves an 8-1 lead with 4:59 remaining in the first half before Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) tallied an unassisted goal after taking a pass after a draw control and speeding down the field and passed defenders to bury it into the back of the net. Sokol took a pass from DiModugno and put it passed the Bearcat keeper to make it an 8-3 game with 4:06 to go in the first. Amelia Biancardi tallied a goal for Binghamton less than a minute later to extend the visitors lead to six at 9-3 before Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.) capitalized on a pass from Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) to make it a 9-4 game with 2:28 remaining in the half. The visitors captured the final two goals of the first half to take an 11-4 lead into the half. With just over two minutes surpassed in the second half, Trasatti scored her second of the game to cut the Binghamton lead to six at 11-5. Rebecca Golderman tallied the only Bearcat goal of the second half on a free position attempt 12 minutes later at 15:45 in the second to make it a seven goal River Hawk deficit at 12-5. Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) tallied the next two goals for the home squad in a span of two minutes to cut the Binghamton lead to five with 9:36 remaining in regulation. McKelvin tallied her second of the game six minutes later off a feed from Trasatti to make it a 12-8 game. Finelli recorded her second assist of the evening after she found Sokol in front of the net for her second goal of the game to make it just a three goal lead with 2:10 remaining in regulation at 12-9. Binghamton won the final draw control to run down the clock and seal the victory. The Bearcat victory sealed the final America East playoff spot, knocking UMass Lowell out of postseason contention.
