Riley Evans tallied four goals while Stephanie Kelly added three goals and three assists to power the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team to a 13-9 win over Army West Point at Sweeney Field on Saturday. HOW IT HAPPENED • Evans opened the scoring for the Hawks at the 25:31 mark before Julia Franzoni netted an equalizer three minutes later for the Black Knights. • Saint Joseph's (1-1) then used a 5-0 run to open up a lead, as Kelly, Emma O'Neill, and Bridget Cerciello found the net and Evans struck twice more over a 15-minute span to make it a 6-1 game. Caroline Raymond then closed out the half with a goal for the visitors to send the Hawks into the break with a 6-2 lead. • West Point (0-1) netted the first two goals of the second half, but the Hawks would grab four of the next five, including a second from Kelly, to make it a 10-5 game with 16:47 to play. • The visitors then ripped off three in a row, cutting the Hawk margin to two at the 12:01 mark, but Alyssa Manley tallied her first of the year and Kelly added her third of the day to push the advantage to 12-8. Evans then sealed the deal with her fourth of the game with just under three minutes to go. BEHIND THE BOX SCORE • Evans tallied the first four goals of her Hawk career after appearing in three contests as a freshman. O'Neill's tally was her first collegiate goal as well. • Kelly's six-point day gives her a team-leading nine through the season's first two games. • Melissa Semkiw made six saves in the cage to earn her first win as a Hawk; Taylor Miller made nine in defeat for the visitors. • Semkiw scooped up a game-high five ground balls, while Evans and Julia Pash recorded four apiece. Cerciello led the way with three caused turnovers, with Semkiw and Evans also netting two. UP NEXT The Hawks will host crosstown rival Drexel on Wednesday, February 24. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Sweeney Field.
