he UVM women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in America East play with a 17-10 victory at Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. The win pushes the Catamounts to 3-1 on the year while Binghamton drops to 1-2. RELATED LINKS Box Score COACH'S QUOTE "Hats off to Binghamton – they had a great game plan and pushed us to adjust," said head coach Sarah Dalton Graddock. "I love how we battled and responded the entire game. This was a huge conference win." HOW IT HAPPENED The Catamounts faced an early 3-1 deficit but Grace Giancola netted a free-position goal at the 17:34 mark to cut the margin in half. The Bearcats scored again 30 seconds later but UVM rallied and tied the game at 4-4 with goals from MacKenzie Bolt and Ava Vasile. With the score all even at 5-5 with 14 minutes left in the first half, the Green and Gold closed the period out with five unanswered goals and took an 11-5 advantage into the break. Maris Large helped fuel the run with a pair of goals. Giancola and Vasile continued the offensive surge with one goal each in the first five minutes of the second half. The league foes traded scores near the midway point of the second half as the Cats led 14-8 with 12 minutes left on the clock. Two minutes later, Giancola added her fifth goal of the day and Taylor Mullen found the back of the net as UVM doubled up Binghamton 16-8. The Bearcats notched two goals in the final six minutes of the game, then Vasile scored one more time in the last minute for the final margin of victory. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Giancola set a career high with seven points on five goals and two assists. She also won a team-high four draws. Vasile matched Giancola with five goals on six shot attempts. She was credited with three ground balls and registered a pair of draws. Large produced a hat trick and McKenzie also provided three points with a team-best three assists. Goalie Sophie McLaughlin turned aside 12 shots, her third straight game with double-digit saves. UVM has started 3-0 in conference play for the first time in school history.
