All five of UMBC's goal scorers put up multi-goal games as the Retrievers defeated the Binghamton Bearcats, 16-10, on Saturday afternoon. The team was led by freshman Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) and sophomore Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Preparatory), who each scored four. FOR THE RECORD UMBC evens out its record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in America East play. Binghamton falls to 1-3 overall and in conference play. STRAIGHT FACTS Binghamton scored the first goal of the game with 25 minutes on the clock before UMBC rattled off five-straight. Senior Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) put the Retrievers on the board off an assist from Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) before graduate student Katie Schluederberg (Elkridge, Md./Howard/Penn State) netted her first of the run at the 18:44 mark to give UMBC the 2-1 lead. Bockstie and Gerow each scored on a free-position attempt before Schluederberg rounded out the scoring run for UMBC to give the Retrievers the 5-1 lead with 14:01 to play in the first half. The teams traded goals, including a man-up opportunity for sophomore Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) from sophomore Rachel Ridgley (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) to help give UMBC the 6-3 lead. Gerow scored back-to-back goals followed by Bockstie's second of the day to help put the Retrievers up, 9-3, with 5:27 to play in the first half. The Bearcats added another goal a minute later but Docal and Bockstie put up two more for UMBC to give them the 11-4 lead heading into halftime. Binghamton scored the first goal of the second half at the 18:44 mark to cut UMBC's lead to six, 11-5, but Bockstie and Halczuk teamed up just 40 seconds later to put the Retrievers back in front by seven. Docal scored her third of the day at the 13:23 mark in the period, but Binghamton scored back-to-back goals for the first time on the day to cut UMBC's lead down to 13-7 with 10:50 to play. The Retrievers scored three straight, starting with Gerow's career-high fourth goal of the game on an eight-meter shot before Bockstie scored her fourth for the day to give UMBC the 15-7 lead with 8:12 to play. Halczuk, off the pass from Bocksite again, joined the hat trick club on the afternoon as she put the Retrievers up, 16-7, with 7:42 on the clock, but the Bearcats ended the scoring run with three-straight goals to end the game.
