The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team scored 20 times Saturday afternoon, 13 of which came in the first half in a 20-12 defeat of Hartford in Vestal. Paige Volkmann led the offense, notching seven goals along with three assists in the victory. "We were excited to get back out there after the long layover," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "Hartford is relentless and never gives up, but I was proud of how we executed on offense, especially in the first half. We have some adjustments to make for our match with Stony Brook, but I'm pleased with our freshmen that saw extended minutes today." The Bearcats took control of the game immediately in the first half, scoring five of the first six goals of the contest. Volkmann scored three of those goals, while Kristen Scheidel and Rebecca Korn also got on the scoresheet. Scheidel's finish was the first of her career. The Bearcats maintained control for the entire frame, as Hartford got as close as 9-4, but BU vaulted to a 13-5 edge at the break. Hartford opened the second half on a roll, scoring four unanswered goals after a Binghamton finish to kick it off. The Bearcats proceeded to call a timeout, and answer with three straight goals to dash the Hawks' hopes at a comeback. When the final whistle blew, Binghamton finished with a 20-12 win, as seven different players tallied goals. Following Volkmann's effort, Hayley Weltner had her strongest game as a Bearcat with four goals and five ground balls. Korn added a hat-trick and two assists. Jesse Barer had five draw controls. Binghamton will prepare for No. 9 Stony Brook Friday. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
