DOVER, Del. -- Emma Hamilton, Jocelyne Lemay and Anna Schoonover each had a hat trick on Friday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team dominated Delaware State, 19-1, in posting its first Southern Conference victory of the season. The 19 goals were a season high for CMU, which improved to 4-7, 1-1 SoCon. Delaware State is 1-6, 0-1. "Our focus today was to execute the controllable pieces, such as possessions, ground balls, the clear, and our effort on the ride," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "These are keys in any game and today provided a great opportunity to improve." HOW IT HAPPENED The Chippewas seized a 4-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game and then spread the wealth as 11 CMU players scored at least one goal. The Chippewas finished with 25 shots on goal to Delaware State's six. LEADERS Hamilton added three assists to lead CMU with six points, while Jessica Schuchardt finished with five points, four of which came on assists. HISTORIC The 18-goal margin of victory is the highest in the four-year history of the Chippewa program, and the one goal matches the lowest a CMU team has ever allowed. The Chippewas surrendered just one goal to Delaware State last season in an 18-1 victory. The Chippewas' 19 goals and their 12 assists both tie for the third-highest in a game in each category in program history. CMU's 31 points – 19 goals, 12 assists – is the third-highest. IN GOAL All three Chippewa goaltenders -- Hope Murray, Clare Laughery and Dominique Hamman – saw playing time and combined to make five saves. YOUTH STEPPING UP Many of CMU's freshman played in the game, gaining valuable playing experience. "Today we saw Courtney Burke and Maddie Bell get their first collegiate goals," Tisdale said. "Defensively Brennan Paddy, Maggie Huizinga and Megan Ols all stepped up and played well. We were able to get a lot of players quality experience minutes which will pay off this season and in years to come." NEXT CMU's final road game of the regular season, a nonleaguer, is scheduled for Sunday, April 7 (11 a.m.) against Howard. Howard is 0-7 and is coming off a 23-0 loss to Detroit Mercy.
