Behind a 14-1 first half, Furman downed Delaware State, 19-1, on Thursday evening inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves Furman to 8-7 on the year, 3-1 in SoCon play, while the loss drops the Hornets to 1-9, 0-3 in SoCon play. Twelve different players scored for the Paladins, led by Grace Pollak and Hannah Demis with three each. Pollak also added two assists on the day for a game-high five points. Abby Shields, Leah Nonnenman and Lanier Maosn each scored two goals for the Paladins, while Pollak picked up a team-high four ground balls. Courtney Baker and Marnie Brennan split time in goal, with Brennan making three saves in her first career appearance. Furman opened the game with eight goals in the first 13 minutes, prompting the Hornets to call a timeout. Furman pushed the lead to 13-0, before Delaware State snuck in their first goal of the game, making it 13-1 with just over 5:00 left in the half. Hannah Feinberg netted the final goal of the half with 3:15 to go, giving Furman the 14-1 halftime lead. The Paladins netted three quick goals to open the second half, pushing the lead to 17-1. Ellie Roser became Furman's 12th scorer of the day, giving the Paladins the 18-1 lead with 15:00 to go. Leah Nonnenman netted her second goal of the day as the shot clock expired, giving Furman the 19-1 advantage with just over 12:00 to go, prompting Delaware State to call a timeout. The Paladins were methodical in their offense for the remainder of the game, working to get as many different scorers as possible, eventually taking the 19-1 victory.
