The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team won't let inclement weather affect its play. The Spiders faced American in snowy conditions on Saturday afternoon, but used a solid performance in both halves and a first-half shutout to tame the Eagles, 13-6. Senior Kim Egizi logged a career-high eight points for the second-straight game, tying her career high of seven goals and assisting on one other. Marissa Brown scored three goals and assisted on three others, while Julia Schmuckler scored twice and Katie Trainer netted one goal to round out the Spider scoring. Richmond went 3-3 from the 8-meter, while holding American to just 1-5. Megan Gianforte posted another solid performance in goal, stopping nine shots and allowing just two goals in just over 48 minutes of play. After back-and-forth play to start the game, the Spiders scored six straight goals to take a 6-0 lead into the break. American mounted a comeback in the second half, but couldn't overcome the Spiders, who move to 2-0 on the season. Richmond returns to action on Wednesday, February 21, when they travel to face No. 15 Virginia. Game time in Charlottesville is set for 5 p.m.
