The [13/16] University of Denver women's lacrosse team upset [6/4] Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Seawolves 11-7 in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. This mark's as head coach Liza Kelly's first victory over a top-five team in either poll since coming to Denver in 2006. The Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the year, handing Stony Brook (1-1) its first loss of the season. "This was a great team win," said Kelly. "Stony Brook gave us a run for our money, but we worked all week and today we saw the results we wanted. Our bench was loud the entire competition, and being at home in our comfortable environment was a huge advantage. We'll celebrate today, but tomorrow we get back to work." Pioneer Performers: Seven Pioneers contributed goals to push Denver past Stony Brook for the first time since 2010. Sophomore Bea Behrins led the offensive brigade with three of DU's 11 goals, followed by Quintin Hoch-Bullen and Eliza Radochonski who posted two each. Elizabeth Behrins, Molly Little, Kendra Lanuza and Julia Feiss tallied the remaining four goals. Elizabeth Behrins and Carson Gregg led the team with four ground balls apiece, while Maddie Baum and Little each totaled three draw controls. Hannah Liddy was a force to be reckoned with on the attack, causing four turnovers from the Seawolves. Team Effort: The Crimson and Gold outshot Stony Brook 29-27 and forced the Seawolves' goalie to make 12 saves in the game. Denver remained consistent in clears all afternoon, tallying a perfect 11-11 in the second half and going 24-25 overall. Holding Down the Fort: Carson Gregg saw 60-minutes in net against Stony Brook, recording a season-high 11 saves to lead the Pioneers to the upset. Family Ties: Sophomore Bea Behrins and older sister senior Elizabeth Behrins shined for the Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. Bea Behrins totaled her second hat trick of the season against the Seawolves, while Elizabeth Behirns tallied one goal, one assist, three shots, four ground balls, one draw control and three caused turnovers. What's Next: The Pioneers will remain at home in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium for the next two games, welcoming Michigan on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 12 p.m.
