ER FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The first-ever nationally-ranked women's lacrosse team to play on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium lived up to its billing on Friday afternoon as #11/13 Denver handed a 20-4 loss to Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse. The Stags' scoring came courtesy of Brooke Gallagher and Taylor Mitchell with two goals apiece. After her two-goal outing today, Gallagher leads Fairfield (4-3) with 24 total points – 13 goals and a team-best 11 assists. She currently ranks fifth in the MAAC with her average of 4.00 points per contest. Mitchell's two-goal day marked her fifth consecutive multi-goal showing for the Stags. She leads Fairfield and ranks fourth in the MAAC with 18 markers this spring. Rounding out the Fairfield scoring was Diana DeVita, who distributed her fifth assist of 2019. Fairfield's defensive effort was led by Kennedy Slater and Maggie Reynolds, who each recorded three ground balls, one caused turnover and two draw controls. Olivia Conquest went the distance in the cage and made five saves. A 2018 NCAA Championship Second Round participant, Denver improved to 5-1 this season. The Pioneers' lone setback of the spring is a 12-10 loss to then-#20 Michigan, and the Wolverines are the only team to date to net more than seven goals against Denver. Leading the way for the Denver attack were 2018 First Team All-Big East attacker Julia Feiss and Eliza Radochonski with six points apiece. 2017 All-Big East First Team pick Kendra Lanuza and 2018 Big East co-Freshman of the Year Quintin Hoch-Bullen each added five-point performances for the Pioneers, who got at least one point from 12 different players today. Carson Gregg started in the cage and made two saves before being spelled by both Amelia Cole and Chloe Lewis. In addition to meeting their first-ever ranked opponent at Rafferty Stadium today, the Stags were also playing their highest-ranked regular season foe since meeting both #10 James Madison and #9 Florida in the 2011 season. After a 12-day break from competition, another team of Pioneers await the Stags as their three-game homestand concludes with a March 20 visit from Sacred Heart. Opening draw in Fairfield's non-conference finale is set for 3 p.m. The Stags will be hosting their "Herd for a Cure" game against the Pioneers with donations collected and t-shirts sold to benefit the Norma Pfriem Breast Center.
