The American University women's lacrosse team fell in a 22-3 decision to ninth-ranked Loyola Maryland on Wednesday at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles are now 3-8 overall and 0-3 in Patriot League play while the Greyhounds continue their undefeated run through the conference at 3-0 and 7-2 overall. "We fought hard against the No. 9 team in the country, but we were outmanned and outgunned," head coach Emma Wallace said. "I'm proud of the team for keeping their heads up and playing hard until the end." It was the sophomore class that led the way for AU, starting with two goals from Amanda Medjid. Erica Skowron added one of her own while Casey Harkins contributed an assist. Sophomore Ana Freda made her first career start in goal, leading the Eagles with seven saves off 24 shots in 44 minutes of play. Freshman Delaney Oliveira closed the game in goal, collecting three saves off eight shots in the final 15 minutes. Junior Sydney Fry put in some key minutes on the defensive end, collecting a team-high five ground balls including two that initiated scoring drives for the Eagles. Twelve players contributed to the Greyhounds' well-rounded scoring effort, starting with Bridget Ballard's five goals. Kady Glynn earned the start in goal for Loyola, leading the team with six saves off seven shots. Kaitlyn Larsson replaced her in front of the net during the second half and collected three saves off five shots. American struggled in the draw circle, earning only five draw controls to Loyola's 21. The Eagles were 9 of 14 in clears and trailed the Greyhounds in ground balls, 22-15. UP NEXT... AU will return home on Saturday, April 7 for a 1 p.m. draw against Boston University. For the latest on American Lacrosse, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_Lacrosse.
