The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 B1G) defended its home turf with a powerful offensive performance, taking down Detroit Mercy, 19-5, on Sunday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Junior Liza Hernandez scored a career-high 10 points on six goals and four assists, stamping her name on a number of single-game record lists for the Buckeyes. Both junior Jill Rizzo and senior Paige Postalwait saw action in goal, turning away nine shots. THE SHORT STORY OSU got off to a hot start in the first half, scoring 14 goals and allowing only two by the Detroit Mercy Titans. Senior Baley Parrott got the Buckeyes on the board first, just 30 seconds after first draw on a free-position shot. Hernandez accounted for five goals and four assists alone. In the second, the Buckeyes notched four unanswered goals to lead 18-2. Detroit Mercy added three goals of their own as time winded down.
