Duquesne improved to 4-0 on the season for just the second time in program history and the first time since 1999 with a 23-9 triumph over visiting Detroit Mercy (1-4) on Sunday at Arthur J. Rooney Field. HOW IT HAPPENED The Dukes jumped out to a 10-1 lead including two apiece by Michaela Connolly, Megan Buettner and Rilee Bradshaw. The Titans countered with five straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-6. Duquesne scored two of the next three goals, the second by Haley Matthai to give the Dukes a 12-7 halftime edge. A man-up goal by Detroit Mercy to open the second half minimized the DU advantage to 12-8. The Dukes responded by outscoring the Titans 11-1 the rest of the way keyed by three more goals by Connolly. Courtney Battles scored a man-down goal while Samantha Cirino netted her first goal of the season and Tina St. Clair found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career. KEY STATS Michaela Connolly's 10 points (five goals & five assists) represent career highs. She was one point shy of the single-game school record. Rilee Bradshaw tallied four goals and an assist for the Dukes. Haley Matthai recorded a hat trick while Sarah Kollhoff, Courtney Battles and Megan Buettner each netted a pair of goals. Battles dished out three assists, as well. 11 different players scored for Duquesne. Bradshaw added a team-high four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Sydney Reed paced Duquesne with six ground balls. Maddie Hart and Kollhoff each posted six draw controls. The Dukes were a perfect 19-of-19 on clears. Duquesne outshot 47-27 including a 37-18 advantage on goal. The Dukes' 23 goals represent a season high. NEXT UP The Dukes make the trip to Moon Township on Wednesday, March 6 to take on local foe Robert Morris at 1 p.m. The Colonials come into the contest with a 3-1 mark after a 13-10 win at Bucknell on Saturday.
