The Basics Final Score: Detroit Mercy 17, Wofford 8 Records: Detroit Mercy 7-7 (3-1 SoCon), Wofford 2-12 (0-3 SoCon) Location: Detroit, Mich. (Titan Field) DETROIT (4/14/2019) -- Two Titan seniors broke longtime school records and the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team rolled past Southern Conference foe Wofford on Senior Day in a 17-8 triumph. The Titans clinched a postseason birth and improved to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Titans (7-7, 3-1 SoCon) honored their six seniors and seven class members prior to the game and then two of those seniors broke school records during the game as senior attacker Lexie Kinmond tallied six points to surpass the career mark of 272 which had been held by former Titan standout Emily Boissonneault. Kinmond's six points gave her 274 career points after the game was finished. Senior goalkeeper Allison McDonough also broke the career mark in ground balls, nabbing five ground balls against the Terriers to surpass former Titan standout Zaynib Hamze (198 career GB). Her five ground balls gave McDonough 199 in her Titan career. Another single-game school record was set by redshirt junior Kaitlyn Wandelt, who corralled 12 draw controls to break her own school record, which she just set last weekend at Delaware State. Her 12 draw controls gives her 99 on the season with her next DC making her the first player to reach 100 draw controls in one season. Detroit Mercy rolled on Senior Day, scoring 12 of the 14 goals in the opening half and cruising in the second half in the victory. The Titans honored all seven in the class -- Morgan Girardi, Lexie Kinmond, Emma Leszczak, Ali Magyaros, Alex McCafferty, Allison McDonough and Kaitlyn Wandelt -- prior to the contest. Kinmond had three goals and three assists for six points and sophomore attacker Kamryn Corraro made it an 11-point week, tallying a career-high six points on four goals and two assists for Detroit Mercy. Freshman Elise Harder tallied a career-best four goals, while Girardi, Wandelt and sophomore Kristina Ellis each added two goals. It was 1-1 after the first 11 minutes of play with both teams turning the ball over early on a cold and rainy afternoon, but Detroit Mercy began to get the offense rolling as Corraro scored two goals and Wandelt and Kinmond each added goals to put Detroit Mercy up 5-1 midway through the first half. After a Wofford goal, the Titans went on a furious run to end the first half, scoring seven goals in the final 6:41 of the half to take a 12-2 halftime advantage. Corraro had a first-half hat trick, while Ellis scored on back-to-back goals. Harder scored twice in a span of 19 seconds in the final minute of the first half, her first coming off a feed from Kinmond as the senior attacker tied the school record in career points at 272. Kinmond made quick work to break the record and re-write the history books, setting a new career points record with her helper to Harder at 26:48 in the second half. Kinmond later found classmate Wandelt for her sixth point of the game as Detroit Mercy went ahead, 15-3. Harder and Corraro each added their fourth goals of the game later in the second half as Detroit Mercy scored 17 goals in the contest. Wandelt led the squad with her 12 draw controls and along with McDonough, had a team-high five ground balls. Junior Sarah Lucas had four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while freshman midfielder Taryn McManus added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Girardi and Harder each had two caused turnovers as five Detroit Mercy players had multiple CT on the day and the Titans had 14 as a team. In net, McDonough had just three saves, adding her five ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Johnson entered the game in the second half and made two saves for Detroit Mercy in 13 minutes. Detroit Mercy doubled up in the shot margin, 40-20, and in caused turnovers, 14-7. The red, white and blue tallied 29 ground balls and also had the edge in draw controls, 14-12. The victory was the 35th overall and 16th conference win for the Titan senior class in the past four years.
