CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team scored the opening goal in their first Big South action of the season against Mercer, but the Bears were relentless in scoring as they scored 18 straight to come away on top, 20-3. Presbyterian is now 2-7 (0-1, Big South) on the season while Mercer bumps up their record to 4-2 (1-0, Big South). The Blue Hose had a red hot start as they won the opening draw control and went down the field and scored 45 seconds into the match. Ellie Lewis picked up a loose ball in front of the net and swung a no-looker towards goal that flew by the goalie for her first goal of her collegiate career. However, PC's lead would only last 31 seconds as Mercer answered immediately to tie things up. For the rest of the first half it was all Bears as they didn't allow the Blue Hose to score again, ending the first half up 14-1. Mercer continued their run into the second half, scoring the only four goals in the 3rd quarter. Presbyterian added on to their total as Kylie Sullivan raced around her defender and laced it into the back of the net for her 6th of the season. Mercer scored two more, but if any bright spot was found from the game it was in the last two minutes. PC caused a turnover by drawing an offensive foul which allowed them one last offensive opportunity. They made a successful clear and ran their offensive set which saw Willow Hammond get open and fire a rocket past the Mercer goalie for her 10th of the season, to end the game 20-3. The Blue Hose will play another home match next weekend as Longwood comes to town for a 1pm start on Saturday, April 2.
