The Yale women's lacrosse team posted a dominant 18-4 win vs. Hartford Tuesday night, highlighted by an Ivy League-record tying 19 draw controls from senior attacker Izzy Nixon. The Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 53-7 and got goals from 11 different players. First-year attacker Olivia Penoyer led the Yale attack with five points (3-2-5). Yale did not allow a Hartford goal until the 28:35 mark of the second half. Yale (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League) had control of this game from the start, scoring eight goals in the first 14:39 and prompting a Hartford timeout. The Bulldogs ended the first half with a 13-0 lead, having outshot Hartford 40-0. They won all 14 draws of the half, led by 12 from Nixon. Hartford (0-4, 0-0 America East) ended its scoring drought with a goal by attacker Billy McLaughlin at 28:35 of the second. She is the lone senior on the team, which is in its second season. Yale then scored the next five goals of the game, getting the score to 18-1 before Hartford scored three times in the final 7:51. The biggest remaining question for the Bulldogs by that point was how many draw controls Nixon would finish with. She got the draw after the final Hartford goal to get to 19, tying the Ivy League mark established by Dartmouth's Kathryn Giroux Mar. 21, 2018. The NCAA record is 24, set by Robert Morris' Jessica Karwacki Feb. 28, 2015. In addition to Penoyer, Yale got multiple-point games from Nixon (2-0-2), first-year attacker Anna Bowers (2-0-2), first-year midfielder Jill Gollob (2-0-2), sophomore midfielder Sam Higgins (3-1-4), sophomore midfielder Olivia Markert (1-1-2), sophomore attacker Isabelle Webster (1-1-2) and junior midfielder Vanessa Yu (1-1-2). Junior attacker Devon Doheny, sophomore defender Colleen Huffman and first-year midfielder Payton Vaughn also scored goals for Yale. Gollob, Penoyer and Vaughn each had a team-best three ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Drake and first-year goalkeeper Clare Boone split time in goal, with Boone making the lone save of the night. Yale visits Penn Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for the start of Ivy League play.
