PHILADELPHIA - An 10 minute spurt of eight goals from the 12th-ranked University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team was enough to suffocate Yale's hopes for a win on Saturday, as the Quakers dominated to a 15-4 victory in their Ivy League and home opener. Penn is now 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Ancient Eight. PENN NEWS AND NOTES *Gabby Rosenzweig's seven-point effort is her second in a game this season, totaling two goals and five assists. The junior now boasts 152 points in her career, ranking ninth in program history. *Penn boasted nine different goal scorers, led by hat trick from sophomore Abby Bosco. The three goals scored by Bosco is a new career high, while she also collected three draw controls and four ground balls. *Erin Barry, Taylyn Stadler and Robin Panzarella all joined Rosenzweig with two goals apiece. The two scores from Panzarella are the first career scores for the rookie. Barry led the team with two caused turnovers. *Draw controls were even at 10-10, but Penn earned the majority of loose balls, recording 25 ground balls to Yale's 17. The Bulldogs also coughed it up 16 times to 11 for Penn. *Mikaila Cheeseman earned the win in goal, playing nearly three quarters of the game and collecting seven saves. Freshman Krissy Kowalski came in in relief and stopped eight shots on goal. *Penn is 4-0 for the second-straight year. *Head Coach Karin Corbett is now 14-6 in Ivy League openers, as Penn has won 14 of its last 15 to start conference play. *Penn has now won 15 straight games against Yale, improving to 24-18-1 in the all-time series. HOW IT HAPPENED Starting the game with their usual 12, the Quakers got a goal within the first five minutes of the game on their second offensive possession. Following two near misses from Stadler and Elyse Decker, Barry earned a free position to tally the game's first score. Penn used stifling defense to quell any Bulldog attack, not allowing an ounce daylight as the Elis advanced the ball into their attacking third, and forcing Yale to play nearly the entire shot clock. Offensively, Penn was flirting with goals but would finish just short, including a shot off the post from Barry. With 16:10 remaining in the first, Rosenzweig took it herself to double Penn's lead, 2-0. A caused turnover and ground ball pickup from Bosco gave Penn the ball right back and this time it was Rosenzweig as the helper, finding a cutting Laura Murphy in front of the goal who finished to make it 3-0. That goal was the first of four straight assisted by Rosenzweig, as the junior connected with Bosco, Stadler and Belodeau on consecutive offensive possessions to push Penn ahead 6-0 at the 11:30 mark of the half. From there, it was Stadler and Bosco again scoring, before a man-up opportunity gave Rosenzweig an open look to Decker who converted. Penn got the running clock rule going following a solo score from Rosenzweig, but it was short lived, as the Bulldogs notched their first goal of the day with 4:47 left in the first half. Halftime would see the score at 11-2, as Yale notched another before Panzarella scored to end the mini-run from the Bulldogs. Yale was the first to score in the second half, scoring just over five minutes into the period, as Penn had to rely on its defense to hold Yale at bay. Penn's offense didn't touch the scorebook until the second 30 minutes until almost 15 minutes had passed with a goal from Erin Barry. A Bulldog goal on a free position opportunity was all Yale would get for the rest of the day, as Penn finished the game on a 3-0 run with goals from Bosco, Michaela McMahon and Panzarella to seal the victory.
