Led by six players with multi-goal games and a 6-0 run to start the second half, the Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (9-2, 4-0) remained unbeaten in conference play with a 21-12 victory over Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon at Garber Field. UMass, which entered the day second in the nation in scoring offense, hit the 20-goal plateau for the third straight game and fifth time this season to extend its winning streak to eight games. Haley Connaughton led the way with eight points on the day (two goals, six assists), while Kelly Marra (five goals), Stephanie Croke (four goals, one assist), Caitlyn Cerasi (three goals, two assists), Maddy Moloney (three goals, one assist) and Olivia Muscella (three goals) all found the back of the net multiple times, while Croke also did the job defensively with two caused turnovers and five groundballs. Caitlyn Petro, the reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, continued to dominate the draw with 17 in the game to help UMass to a 20-13 advantage on the draw. Lauren Hiller made five saves on the day before Bridgette Wall (two saves) took over late in regulation. The teams played an even first half with neither squad leading by more than two goals through the opening 20 minutes before the Minutewomen scored five of the final eight goals of the half, including two apiece from Marra and Muscella, to take an 11-7 lead into the break. From there it was all UMass, though, with the Minutewomen scoring the first six goals of the second half to break the game open in the first eight minutes and never look back. Massachusetts will be back in action next week when UMass travels to La Salle for a 2 p.m. contest on Friday.
