The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross, 14-11, on Tuesday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field behind a strong second half defensive effort. The Crusaders turned the ball over 12 times in the second while the Bears never trailed in the period while outscoring the visitor 6-4. Sophomore Erin Tucker (Centerport, N.Y.) made a total of 10 saves, her second game this season with double digit stops, to lead Brown (3-2). Senior KC Williams (Duxbury, Mass.) paced the Bears' offense, tying her career high of four goals. Junior Maggie Fowler (Bethesda, Md.) also tied her career high with three tallies while sophomore Sophia DeRosa (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) was the third scorer to register a hat trick while adding an assist. "I thought our team did well responding at halftime against a strong and aggressive Holy Cross team," said head coach Keely McDonald. "We look forward to preparing for this weekend." Each team carried a lead multiple times in the opening half with the Bears claiming the advantage, 8-7, to go into the break. Williams scored the day's first goal at 28:03 before the Crusaders pulled ahead with two straight at 26:27 and 22:18. Williams then started a three-goal run at 16:33 to put the Bears on top, 4-2. Holy Cross (4-2) next regained a lead with three consecutive of its own, including the first two from Izzy Grant (10:46, 9:53). Brown followed by scoring four of the next five goals for a 7-5 advantage. Williams completed the hat trick at 5:44 and sophomore Alaina Parisella (Chatham, N.J.) added two goals at 6:36 (player-up) and 3:27. Grant added her the third goal with seven second remaining to cut Holy Cross' deficit to one (8-7) to go into the break. The Bears edged Holy Cross in shots for the first, 16-15, while draw controls were an even 8-8. Free positions favored the Crusaders who went 2-for-5 while Brown was 0-for-2. Holy Cross opened the second half with a free-position goal at 28:00 to knot the game, 8-8. Junior Risa Mosenthal (Campton, N.H.) (23:52) and DeRosa (20:18) went back-to-back before Creo added her fourth score of the contest to bring the game to 10-9. The Bears then took their largest lead of the matchup with four-straight scores, including three in five minutes, for a comfortable 14-9 lead. Fowler scored two in a row at 16:22 and 15:52 to start things while DeRosa followed with her third of the evening at 11:37 (free position). Williams capped off the run with her fourth goal at 2:45 while Brown was a player down. Holy Cross scored its first goal since the 18:45 mark of the frame when Catherine Guanci put one in at 1:32. Despite a goal by Bryn Carroll at 1:22, it was too late for the Crusaders and Brown earned its third win of the season, 14-11. The Crusaders outshot Brown, 15-13, in the second and held the draw advantage, 8-3. DeRosa converted the Bears' only free position goal of the game in their only attempt of the half while Holy Cross was 2-for-4. Tucker had many spectacular saves in the second on her way to 10 stops overall with five in each half. Creo led Holy Cross with four goals and two assists while Carroll and Grant added hat tricks. Grace Fink turned away eight shots on the day, four in each stanza.
