Sophomore midfielder Madeline Seims poured in a career-high five goals, while three other Seahawks produced hat tricks, in leading the Wagner women's lacrosse team to its third straight victory, a dominant 17-5 win over UMass Lowell at rain-soaked Hameline Field on Sunday. The Seahawks improve to 4-2 on the season following today's victory while the River Hawks, who compete in the America East Conference, fall to 3-5. The Seahawks were clicking on all cylinders this day, galloping out to an 8-0 halftime lead and never looking back. In addition to Seims' five-goal splurge, the other three Seahawks recording hat tricks included sophomore midfielder Erin Kerstetter, who added four assists in a seven-point day, sophomore attack Stefani Peluso, who dished out two assists for a five-point total, and junior attack Stephanie Falcone. Sophomore midfielder Victoria Tucci finished the day with five points (1g, 4a), freshman midfielder Kasey Dorney added two (1g, 1a), while senior midfielder Stephanie Roberts added her first career goal as a Seahawk. A second-team All-Big South performer at Longwood University in 2017 before transferring to Wagner, Roberts suffered a season-ending injury prior to the 2018 campaign and has now diligently worked her way back onto the field. The 17 goals scored by the Seahawks matches their season high and comes on the heels of a stirring 12-11 come-from-behind home win over Colgate on March 3, giving Wagner a 2-0 week. Not to be lost in this offensive outburst was the performance turned in by the Seahawks on the defensive end, as Wagner kept the River Hawks off the board for the game's first 31:55, yielding just three scores total. Senior defender Kirsten Monte was active all afternoon, leading the Seahawks in both ground balls (7) and caused turnovers (4), while classmate and 2018 Second-Team All-NEC selection Maddie Courtney contributed five ground balls and three caused turnovers. In goal, redshirt senior Kelsey Fee recorded seven saves and allowed just two goals during a 53:06 stint before freshman Lauren DiStefano came on to complete the game's final 6:54 in front of the cage. In addition to her five-goal effort, Seims paced Wagner with four draw controls while Kerstetter added three. UMass Lowell's three goals came from three different players as Cameron McKelvin, Kristina Keith (1a), and Hana Caster tallied one goal each. In goal, Renee Gonzalez recorded nine saves. Statistically, the Seahawks held a decided advantage across the board, leading in shots (35-15), ground balls (32-18), and draw controls (13-9), while forcing the Red Hawks into committing 21 turnovers. The Seahawks are right back at it on Wednesday, March 13 when they make the short trip to Monmouth with first-draw set for 3:00 p.m.
