Junior Peyton Gasche tied a school single-game record with 11 points, and senior Jordan Oshowy came off the bench to pump in a career-best four goals, to pace the Adrian offense to its best effort so far this season with an 18-7 victory over Anderson (Indiana) in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. THE BASICS Final Score: Adrian College 18, Anderson (Indiana) University 7 Location: Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium; Weather conditions: Sunny, 58 degrees, Wind SE 8 mph Records: Adrian Bulldogs, 3-2 overall (0-0 MIAA); Anderson (Ind.) Ravens, 0-3 overall (0-0 HCLC) HOW IT HAPPENED Adrian jumped ahead with a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs dominated possession for the game's opening 3 minutes while taking a 3-0 lead on goals by Gasche and freshmen Jaden Bishop, Michael O'Connor by 11 minutes and 59 seconds showing on the game clock. After Josh Rhodes put Anderson on the scoreboard at the 7:43 mark, Gasche wrapped up the first-quarter scoring with goals at 4:18 and 4 seconds left. Adrian built an 8-1 lead on tallies by Gasche (two) and Oshowy on the way to heading into the halftime intermission up 8-2. The Bulldogs iced the win by opening the second half with four-straight goals--O'Connor, classmate Nic Palomba, junior Travis Fox, Oshowy--to take a commanding 12-2 advantage with 5:51 to go in the third quarter. Bishop scored a highlight-reel goal to open the scoring for the Bulldogs in the fourth. He picked off the goalie's clear attempt to earn the caused turnover and ground ball, then scored into an empty cage for a 13-5 lead with 13:29 remaining. The Bulldogs outshot the Ravens 58-31 (32-18 shots on goal) and also had a 48-40 advantage in ground balls. Adrian also was good clearing the ball with an 85.2 percent success rate (23/27) while making it miserable for Anderson at 50.0 percent (17/24). TOP 'DAWGS Gasche finished with game highs of seven goals and 11 points with three ground balls. Junior Max Leventis was 12-for-21 on face-offs and tied for game-high honors with 10 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Ethan Krupp played the first 45 minutes to get the win, finishing with 10 saves and four ground balls. Also enjoying a multi-point game were Bishop (2g-3a), O'Connor (2g-2a), Fox (2g-1a) and junior Chris French (2a). Sophomore defenseman Griffin Roisen led the Bulldogs with three caused turnovers. THE OPPOSITION Rhodes led Anderson with a hat trick. Cole Whatley went 12-for-24 in the face-off "X" and had 10 ground balls. Mason Bratcher led all student-athletes with five caused turnovers. BEYOND THE BOXSCORE Gasche tied his own school record of 11 points in a game he set at Earlham on March 7, 2020, when he had five goals and six assists. He takes over the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association lead in goals (20) and total points (31). French now has a MIAA-best 13 assists. Today marked the first meeting between the two schools in men's lacrosse. Leventis is a member of the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III National Team of the Week. Anderson was picked to finish in third place in the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference. French enters the Adrian top-10 all-time scoring chart at No. 10 with 116 points on 74 goals and 42 assists for his career, and Gasche is right behind him with 114 (58g-56a). UP NEXT Adrian will travel to Holland on Saturday (2 p.m.) to play host Hope College in a non-conference game at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.
