Juniors Travis Fox and Chris French both recorded a hat trick for Adrian College Men's Lacrosse but the Bulldogs couldn't overcome a slow start in a 14-10 loss Saturday at the hands of visiting Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action on Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium. The Scots improve to 4-7 overall with their second win against Adrian this season (also won 11-7 in March 2 season opener) and 1-1 in the MIAA, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-5 in their conference opener. French added three assists to lead Adrian with six points and had a season's best seven ground balls. Fox had an assist for four points, and classmate Peyton Gasche contributed two goals and an assist with three ground balls. Connor Alley pumped in six goals among seven points to lead the Scots offense. Chase Hunyadi had a game-high 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Haden Johnson added four points (3g-1a) and Anar Tumurbaatar, three (2-1). Adrian fell behind 5-1 after the first quarter but turned the tables on Alma in the second. On the strength of two man-up goals by Gasche and Fox sandwiched around a tally from French 4 minutes and 46 seconds apart, the Bulldogs got within 5-4 by the 9:58 mark. Johnson and Hunyadi scored at 5:50 and 3:35, respectively, to restore Alma's three-goal lead at the start of the frame before Adrian cut the deficit to one again. French and sophomore Brett Koczenasz scored 1:19 apart to make it 7-6 Alma. The Scots, however, had the momentum going into the halftime break with two late goals of their own. Alley and Johnson scored six seconds apart as both goals were assisted by Hunyadi to give Alma a 9-6 advantage at the intermission. Adrian junior Max Leventis won 16 of 23 draws and posted a game-high 10 ground balls to extend his all-time school record to 301. In the second half, Adrian made it 9-7 42 seconds in on a man-up goal by senior Jordan Oshowy with French assisting but the Bulldogs couldn't get any closer than that the rest of the way. The Scots scored the next three goals to make it 12-7 with 6:39 left in the third quarter for their biggest lead and hold the Bulldogs at bay.
