EUGENE, Ore. – Behind four goals each from freshmen Carlie Leach and Jamie Level, the Oregon women's lacrosse team registered a 15-12 win over Jacksonville, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference champions, on Friday night at Pape Field. Leach and Level's four goals apiece led Oregon's five multi-goal scorers in the game, as the Ducks improved to 2-2 on the young season while handing the Dolphins (1-1) their first loss. How It Happened: The Ducks and Dolphins played a tight game in the first half. Five Ducks scored in the first 30 minutes with attackers Shannon Williams and Leach leading the way with two goals each. Oregon had a one-point lead over Jacksonville, 7-6, headed into halftime. The Dolphins opened the second half with a goal to tie the score. Attacker Emily Munro responded with a goal for the Ducks but Jacksonville responded with two in a row. From there, Oregon took control with 5-0 run, and there was no looking back. Level tallied three points during the run, scoring twice and assisting Leach for her hat trick goal. Midfielder Claire Domshick and Munro each recorded their second goals of the night during the game-changing run. Leach and Level collected one more goal each to finish out the night. Notable: Six Ducks scored a total of 15 goals with seven assists … Williams' two goals marked her 50th career game with a goal … Level led the Ducks with six points off four goals and two assists … Williams tallied five points with three assists and two goals … Williams has scored at least five points in every game this season… Goalkeeper Rachel Hall collected 13 saves and now has a total of 53 saves so far this season … Defender Madeline Reece had seven draw controls … Midfielder Gracyn Elliott registered five ground balls and four draw controls. Quotable: Head Coach Chelsea Gamble On Oregon's 5-0 run: "The second half run was huge. I think it gave the team the mentality they needed to realize they can do this. Starting off hot and then having Jacksonville come back into the game, I think had us questioning ourselves a little bit. But having that fire from the start allowed them to settle in and become confident for that run. It was just a matter of using the clock and possessing the ball." On the freshmen's performance: "They were unreal. Jamie, Carlie and Rachel are three of the hardest workers we have within the freshmen class. I kept telling Jamie and Carlie before this that their shots are going to come. They were getting frustrated with their shooting percentage and what they have been able to display in the past few games, and I think it was just a matter of them getting out the jitters. Seeing them step up at the end of the game tonight when Shannon Williams was in a face guard was huge. That gives me a lot of confidence that they're not really 'freshmen' anymore, because they have experience now and know what it takes in those moments. Rachel has been lights out all season. She comes up with some huge saves when there's no defense, and that's impactful in giving us momentum. Those three, in addition to some other freshmen, have been really key for us this season. " Up Next: The Ducks are home again next weekend to host UC Davis at Pape Field on Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m.
