JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With 13 different goal-scorers, the reigning NCAA scoring champions flexed their offensive prowess as the Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team downed Wofford, 25-3, Friday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field. The win marks the Dolphins' sixth-straight victory as JU improves to 7-2 overall; the loss drops Wofford to 2-7 on the year. "Our team was strong on the attacking end today and it was nice to see a lot of younger players contributing and getting a chance to play," stated Associate Head Coach Paul McCord following the win. "We had our starting defense out in the first half, which allowed us to develop some of our depth. Our reserve players came to play today and they got a chance to continue to mature; they work so hard at practice every day, many playing scout team more than running our own plays, so today was a great reward for their hard work this season. We have a quote in our locker room: 'one team, one win.' We stand behind this; our bench is very important to our team success on and off the field and we are proud of them." A total team effort on both of the field had the Dolphins firing on all cylinders to the tune of 40 shots (30 on goal), advantages on the draw (22-6) and in the ground ball game (30-7), and an impressive defensive effort that caused 10 of Wofford's 14 turnovers for a .385 clearing percentage (5-13). With four points each, graduate student Hayley Ciklin (4 goals) and junior Alexis Deaken (3 goals, 1 assist) highlighted the Dolphins' offensive assault for a 16-2 lead at halftime. With three unassisted goals to open the game, Ciklin lit things up with a natural hat trick before she scored her final tally of the afternoon with 21:48 showing in the first half. Deaken started a 7-0 run for the Dolphins with 19:42 on the clock, buried a pass from junior captain Parker Day just 56 seconds later, and capped the run from the eight-meter line with 12:58 before the break. In the first half alone, Jacksonville peppered Terrier goalie Kelsey Thompson with 24 shots; between the pipes, Thompson corralled seven saves in the opening 30 minutes en route to 10 total. Freshman defender Hannah Carolan posted her first collegiate point, after she dished a pass to senior captain Lillie Miller for the Dolphins' second goal of the second half at 24:30. Classmate Molly Brock recorded a hat trick and won a team-high five draw controls, while sophomore Olivia D'Angelo chipped in two goals and an assist. Individually, both Ciklin and sophomore Lauren Phillips picked up four ground balls, while junior McKenna Rushford added four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Dayna Martinetto and redshirt-freshman Sharn Muffett split time in the crease, as Martinetto earned the win and Muffett collected all three of the Dolphins' saves in the second half. Added McCord, "It's easy to look at our roster and think we are a young team, but we don't play that way. Today some of our best possession players were our youngest players – that says a lot. One goal for the team is to get better every day until the end of the season and today our depth improved. Furman has our undivided attention; we won't overlook them. They are solid and have given some tough games to some good teams. We will need our best effort to finish this SoCon weekend off." The Dolphins return to action this Sunday, March 31 when they welcome the Paladins to D.B. Milne Field at 1 p.m.
