No. 1 Stony Brook women's lacrosse defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the fifth time this season on Saturday night at LaValle Stadium, topping No. 13 Towson by the final score of 13-8. With the victory, Stony Brook improves to 7-0 so far in 2018. Stony Brook has now won seven-straight contests to begin a season for the first time since 2015, when the program won 11-straight contests to begin the year. QUOTING HEAD COACH Joe Spallina "I'm really proud of our program, this was another great test for us. I think we did some uncharacteristic things at times, but I tip my cap to Towson… they're a great team. When it was 7-7 in the second half, I think our leadership emerged and got it done. We deal with a lot of pressure [being the No. 1 team in the country], but we've done a good job so far having to live up to that. On Kylie Ohlmiller's performance: "She took the game over in the second half. She made plays once she started to relax a little bit, and that's just another example of how much she means to this team." HIGHLIGHTS After Towson tied the game 7-7 with 13:25 left in action, Stony Brook went on a 6-1 run to close out the contest and remain undefeated. Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) led the way, tying a career-high with seven goals. The senior also added an assist, giving her eight total points in the win. Ohlmiller recorded five of her seven goals in the final 13 minutes of the contest, as she has now tallied a hat trick in six-straight games. Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) and Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) each added two goals and two assists for four total points, while redshirt senior Courtney Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) scored twice. Tiffany Zullo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Burns (West Sayville, N.Y.) each added an assist in the win. Keri McCarthy (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had seven draw controls, and Samantha DiSalvo (Lynbrook, N.Y.) tallied five draw controls and a team-best three caused turnovers. Anna Tesoriero (Huntington, N.Y.) made four saves in net, earning her seventh win of the season. The Seawolves won 14 of 23 draw controls, and outshot the Tigers 30-17 in the win. NOTES Kylie Ohlmiller now has 385 career points, needing just 60 more points to break the NCAA career record set by Maryland's Jen Adams (445). The senior also has 191 career assists now, needing 34 more to break the NCAA record set by Northwestern's Hannah Nielsen (224). Courtney Murphy now has 272 career goals, needing just 18 more goals to break the NCAA record set by Temple's Gail Cummings (289). Stony Brook has now attempted 30 or more shots in each of its first seven contests. The Seawolves defense forced 22 turnovers, the most the program has caused so far this year. NEXT UP The Seawolves are back in action on March 24, traveling to UMass Lowell for a 12 p.m. conference contest. The Seawolves return to LaValle Stadium on March 30, hosting Vermont at 7:00 p.m. in America East play.
